Hellblazer: City of Demons #4

With only one issue left in this five-part Vertigo limited series, Hellblazer: City of Demons #4 arrives in early 2011 with a cover by Sean Murphy that crackles with nocturnal tension. The image puts John Constantine — blonde, trenchcoat askew, red tie loosened — squarely in the middle of a chaotic urban brawl, caught between a looming dark-clad figure pressing in from the left and a dark-haired woman thrown back on his right, the rain-slicked city skyline brooding behind them all. Si Spencer and Sean Murphy have built something genuinely gripping here, and this penultimate chapter, subtitled "Babylon's Burning," promises the kind of street-level supernatural confrontation the cover so vividly suggests.
