Hellblazer #84

This December 1994 entry in DC Vertigo's mature-readers series delivers one of the more unsettling cover images in the run: a creature in a blonde wig, pink dress, and dark fur sits atop a prostrate human figure, both surrounded by a sea of empty bottles, smoke curling from the beast's lips. Cover artist John Eder constructs a tableau that feels genuinely surreal and a little nightmarish — exactly the register Hellblazer operates in. With Jamie Delano writing and Sean Phillips on interior art, "In Another Part of Hell" promises the kind of darkly imaginative storytelling the series built its reputation on.
