Garth Ennis and John Higgins kick off "Son of Man" with this striking 1998 Vertigo entry — part one of five in what promises to be an unsettling arc for John Constantine. Glenn Fabry's cover draws the eye immediately: a young man's face dominates the foreground in close-up, while behind him a gaunt, wild-eyed figure clutching a gun looms in a wood-paneled hallway, a portrait visible on the wall beyond. The contrast between that calm, almost detached expression up front and the raw desperation lurking in the background sets an atmosphere of quiet dread that feels very much at home in Constantine's world.
