Bilquis Evely's cover for this second issue is a genuinely stunning composition — a red-haired young woman in a yellow blouse and plaid skirt stretches languidly amid a dense tangle of ornate weapons, Viking shields, spiked maces, spears, and climbing roses, a wine bottle slipping from one hand while a small white dog wanders below her feet. The contrast between her casual, almost dreamy posture and the arsenal surrounding her says everything about the tone Tom King and Evely are going for with this Dark Horse series. At $4.99, it's a gorgeous package from a creative team — King, Evely, colorist Matheus Lopes, and letterer Clayton Cowles — clearly having a wonderful time with this world.
