Head Comix #2

Robert Crumb's Head Comix 2, published by Heyne under their "Scene" imprint, collects what the subtitle promises as "Neue eiskalte Comics" — new ice-cold comics. The cover, drawn entirely by Crumb himself, features a sequence of his signature anthropomorphic cat characters in various sprawling, expressive poses, accompanied by a speech balloon of German text that gives the whole thing a wonderfully deadpan comic-strip energy. It's a fine showcase of Crumb's loose, confident linework and his gift for wringing absurdist humor from the simplest of scenarios.
