Hawkeye & Mockingbird #4
Paul Renaud's cover for this 2010 Marvel series puts Hawkeye front and center — bow drawn, quiver at his back, standing defiantly in a pool of red light — while a massive, shadowy masked figure looms behind him bearing an ominous red-X symbol. The tension between the small but resolute archer and that towering threat makes for a genuinely compelling image, and IGN.com's pull quote ("A hell of a good time.") suggests the series was earning its reputation by issue four. With Jim McCann writing and the López art team bringing the story to life inside, "Ghosts, Part 4: Unnatural Histories" looks like a satisfying chapter in this 2010 team-up title.
