The fifth issue of IDW's Hawken brings the Benjamin Truman and Timothy Truman collaboration to a fever pitch, with Timothy Truman's cover art depicting the fringed, dual-pistol-wielding Hawken leaping defiantly above a ring of hands thrusting revolvers upward at him — outnumbered but clearly far from finished. The gritty, kinetic linework captures a frontier hero caught in an impossible crossfire, his weathered face and blood-spattered buckskins suggesting he's already been through plenty before this moment. "La Fortaleza de las Ciénagas" promises the kind of rugged, atmospheric Western storytelling that made this 2012 series a distinctive entry in IDW's lineup.
