“T-Minus”

Milestone's armored hero dominates this February 1996 cover in spectacular fashion — Hardware rides a massive, chain-wrapped spherical craft through the sky, fist raised and suit gleaming with gold and blue detail, with a figure tumbling in the background and rockets firing below. The subtitle "Shoot the Moon" sets an appropriately ambitious tone for what the cover promises, and Eric Battle's pencils and inks give the whole image a kinetic, larger-than-life energy. With Rozum, Cowan, and Gabriele steering the series, Hardware #36 is a fine example of Milestone's bold, distinctive voice in mid-'90s superhero comics.
