“Harm's Way”

From DC's Focus imprint, Hard Time #3 (June 2004) brings Steve Gerber, Mary Skrenes, and Brian Hurtt's gritty prison drama to its third chapter with "Harm's Way." Tomer Hanuka's cover is a striking, vertically dynamic composition set in what appears to be a prison shower room, where two inmates in orange jumpsuits are shown in violent mid-air motion — one hurled upward, one tumbling — while frightened onlookers press against the tiled walls. The fluid, almost surreal staging gives the scene a visceral energy that makes clear life inside these walls is anything but safe.
