Happy Rabbit spends his days daydreaming about the adventurous "good old days," convinced modern life has robbed him of real heroism and excitement. When he discovers a book of magic words in the library, he uses one to transport himself back through history—from caveman times through ancient Rome to the age of musketeers—only to find that every era throws unexpected chaos and danger his way. Each misadventure teaches him something unexpected about where true adventure really lies.

Buddy Bear lands a new job as a bill collector for the Grabbit Collection Agency, armed with strict orders to chase down debtors and never take no for an answer. When he's sent to collect three dollars from a Mr. Herkimer on Cedar Street, Happy Rabbit plays a prank by switching house numbers—but Buddy winds up at the wrong address, one occupied by the dangerous criminal Dangerous Dan Mr. Bibble, setting off a wild chase through the city streets and onto a theater stage. What starts as a simple collection job becomes anything but, as Buddy pursues his elusive quarry through increasingly chaotic circumstances.

Happy Rabbit's desperate to scrape together five dollars for the big dance tonight, and when he spots a horseshoe, he figures his luck has finally turned—until he "borrows" Uncle Fuzzy's experimental Zoomo-Cycle to deliver a rush package and discovers the invention has a few bugs to work out. With a wild ride across land, sea, and air gone hilariously wrong, Happy learns that fortune has a funny way of evening itself out.
