When he was a small child, Larry Powell witnesses a freak accident where his father is killed by a pair of scissors when a bat flies through the window of a barber shop startling the barber (Mr. Giancarli). He grows up terrified of having his hair cut. At age 26, while sitting in his mother's kitchen, another bat flies through the window and embeds itself in Larry's hair. Larry attempts to hide the bat. When both his childhood crush and the bully who taunted him reenter his life, the bat in Larry's hair begins to talk to him and give him advice on life.
