Uncas vinner tvekampen mot Sol. Bergsindianerna blir därefter bortkörda från området. Jose Madera mördar Listiga Räven, men faller själv i döden, då han försöker få ett stenskred att gå över Uncas. När Uncas rider hemåt hittar han den medvetslöse kapten Cooper liggandes på marken.
