Gwandanaland Comics #709 collects issues #55–60 of the golden age action-adventure-mystery series Jumbo Comics, reprinting a wonderful chunk of classic jungle storytelling in one convenient volume. The cover — drawn and inked by Art Saaf — puts Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, front and center in her iconic leopard-skin outfit, bow drawn and ready as enormous black birds (the Thunder-Birds, per the cover text) swoop and claw around her, with a skull resting ominously at her feet. It's a striking image that captures everything that made this pulp-era series so irresistible: bold composition, exotic danger, and a fearless heroine holding her ground.
