This Gwandanaland Comics collection reprints material from Horror from the Tomb, and the cover showcases one of pre-code horror's most visceral images: a rotting, grinning corpse rising from the earth while a startled couple — a man and a red-dressed woman — look on, apparently more concerned with digging up buried money than the undead thing clawing its way toward them. A vulture lurks in the background and a hooded "Keeper of the Graveyard" figure watches from an inset panel, setting a wonderfully grim, atmospheric tone. If you're a fan of vintage horror comics at their most lurid and imaginative, this 2019 reprint volume is a terrific way to experience that chilling golden-age atmosphere.
