Gunhawks #3

Marvel's 1973 Western series puts Reno Jones and Kid Cassidy front and center in an issue whose cover pulls no punches: a green-caped gunfighter plants himself between a terrified Native child and an advancing cavalry unit, rifle in hand, defiantly confronting a general who has orders to wipe out every man, woman, and child in the village. Syd Shores's cover art captures the desperate moral stakes with a raw urgency — soldiers on horseback press forward in the background while chaos and broken debris litter the foreground. Gary Friedrich's story, "Massacre at Medicine Creek!", promises the kind of morally charged Western storytelling that made Marvel's early-'70s frontier titles genuinely compelling.
