“Imagine Me”

The second chapter of Daniel Way and Jon Proctor's four-part crime series presents a striking low-angle cover: a massive, shadowy figure looms over a battered man slumped on the floor, with a blood-spattered window glowing red in the background and an "Out of Order" sign adding an unsettling touch of grim irony. Proctor's artwork uses deep shadows and stark contrast to build real menace, making the power imbalance between the two figures immediately felt. With its Parental Advisory label and Marvel's Epic imprint, Gun Theory was clearly 2003's answer to mature, noir-inflected crime comics — and "Imagine Me" looks to deliver on that promise.
