Gudrun #[nn]
From Bokförlaget Mormor's 2008 Swedish collection, Gudrun introduces readers to its wonderfully expressive title character — a big-nosed, thoroughly relaxed figure sprawled across a plump black armchair, music notes floating in the air as she enjoys what looks like a very satisfying moment of leisure. The vivid hot-pink cover, rendered in sharp black-and-white linework by Eva-Lena Klint and Håkan Olsson, gives the whole thing an irresistibly playful, slightly anarchic energy. With writing credits shared by Klint, Katarina Wikars, and Lise Indahl, this looks like a collaboration brimming with personality and wit.
