# Synopsis "Last Mile Vengeance" opens with the execution of criminal gang overlord Gats Cannon at State Prison, which the nation believes will end his reign of terror. However, Britt Reid, editor of the Daily Sentinel, receives a shocking teletype message revealing that Cannon has been murdered by "Killer Found" and signed by Gats Cannon himself—suggesting the crime boss has somehow returned from the grave. After calling his home for reinforcements, Reid races to stop the presses and investigate. The story then shifts to an underworld gathering in a warehouse where mysterious figures, sworn to a cause "Beyond Good and Evil," await their leader—revealing that Gats Cannon is indeed alive and plotting his return to power. The subsequent pages show a comedic adventure involving a character pursued through various locations including a zoo, where lions and other animals create chaos, and later a baseball locker room, where the protagonist battles an antagonist identified as "Mr. Meddling Zebra," demonstrating a shift in tone from the opening's crime drama to slapstick adventure.
