Green Arrow / Black Canary #4

Cliff Chiang's cover for this March 2008 issue says everything without saying a word: Green Arrow kneels center stage, cradling a limp, shrouded Black Canary in his arms, while a solemn assembly of DC's heaviest hitters — Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Wonder Woman, and Hawkman among them — looms in muted tones behind him. The contrast between the full-color foreground and the desaturated, ghostly Justice League creates a genuinely affecting image of grief and vigil. Judd Winick closes out the "Dead Again" arc here, and Chiang's composition gives the conclusion the emotional weight it deserves.
