“Fail-Safe”

A tense "No Justice" tie-in, this 2018 annual puts Oliver Queen front and center as a lone, bow-wielding Green Arrow stands defiantly over a heap of fallen Justice League members — Harley Quinn and others strewn across the ground — while an imposing woman's face looms enormous in the background amid glowing circuit-board patterns. The blazing cover copy "JLA D.O.A.?" makes it clear the stakes couldn't feel higher for Earth's heroes. Writers Julie Benson and Shawna Benson, artist Carmen Carnero, and colorist Trish Mulvihill bring real energy to "Fail-Safe," with David López's cover setting a genuinely gripping tone for the whole package.

Ollie's battle with Danny Brickwell is interrupted when a Brainiac ship shows up in Seattle and tries to capture Ollie. With the majority of the world's heroes nowhere to be found, Barbara Gordon helps Ollie to rescue Dinah and the JLA, who have been overcome by Brainiac robots. Ollie then tracks suspicious activity in the Artic, which leads him to a confrontation with Amanda Waller.
