Great Pacific #1
This first volume of Joe Harris' eco-thriller series follows Chas Worthington, a disgraced oil heir who declares himself the sovereign ruler of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a floating continent of plastic debris. As he attempts to build a new nation from the trash, he must contend with scavengers, corporate interests, and the deadly realities of his self-proclaimed kingdom. Collects issues #1-6 of the 2013 Image Comics series.
In "Trashed!", Chas Worthington—heiress to the Worthington Corp oil fortune—abandons his privileged life to confront the ocean’s growing crisis. After discussing a revolutionary cleanup tech called HERO on an offshore rig, he fakes his death and vanishes into the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, seeking purpose amid the floating debris.
In "Trashed! Part Two," Chas, now calling the vast Great Pacific garbage patch the "New Texas Settlement," ventures deeper into its floating expanse, only to stumble upon unexpected inhabitants. As government scrutiny intensifies over Worthington Energy, Chas faces a terrifying new threat when a colossal squid known as Yalafath emerges from the wreckage.
In "Trashed! Part Three" from Great Pacific #1, Chas stumbles through the vast garbage patch, haunted by memories of his grandfather’s funeral, only to realize he’s lost the Hero device. As he searches the drifting debris, he stumbles upon a crashed plane and a mysterious French pilot who holds the Hero prototype—setting off a chain of events that awakens the ancient Yalafath, the giant squid.
In "Trashed! Part Four," Chas races to free Zoe from the Yalafath, but with Teddy Worthington demanding he be cleaned up and mercenaries descending on New Texas, the stakes are higher than ever. As Chas uncovers a hidden Russian nuclear satellite, Zoe’s comrades arrive—only to turn on him, turning allies into threats in an instant.
In "Trashed! Part Five" from Great Pacific #1, Zoe makes a desperate move to free Chas by turning on Kalk, setting off a chain of events that leads to a harrowing escape. Hunted by the tribe, they’re captured and forced to confront the tribe’s hidden past, before finally returning to their base just as the US Navy arrives.
