The second issue of Mark Sable and Paul Azaceta's four-part Image series doubles down on dread with a cover that speaks volumes through shadow alone. Paul Azaceta renders a mass of silhouetted figures — soldiers and shambling undead alike — their forms swallowed by darkness save for the unsettling red glint of glowing eyes staring out from the crowd. It's a stark, deeply atmospheric image that captures the collision of modern warfare and something far more ancient and hungry, and makes a compelling case for this series as one of 2011's more ambitious horror-war hybrids.
