“The Doppler Effect”

In "The Doppler Effect," Gravestone stands guard over Christine Daniels in Sluggtown—a nightmare city ripped from another dimension and superimposed on Los Angeles. As he battles the surreal horrors of the warped metropolis, flashbacks reveal a haunting memory of a past love in Paris, echoing through the shadows of an abandoned opera house. When a shapeshifting predator named Scythe emerges, mimicking Gravestone’s form and draining his power, the hero is left vulnerable as the imposter unleashes chaos. Written by Martin Powell and illustrated by Roy Burdine, with inks by Thomas Florimonte Jr., colors by George Cox, and letters by Patrick Owsley, the cover by Kelley Jones captures the eerie tension of this 1993 Malibu standout.
