Volume 5 of Gokushufudou delivers another round of deadpan domestic comedy, and the cover says it all — a broad-shouldered, tattoo-hinted tough guy in a casual apron leans forward with complete focus, wringing out a cloth over a blue basin with a cleaning spray bottle nearby, sunglasses on and not a shred of irony in sight. Creator おおのこうすけ (Kousuke Oono) captures the series' signature charm perfectly: this is a man who brings the same fierce dedication to housework that others might bring to far more dangerous pursuits.
