Godzilla: Rulers of Earth #12

Marking Godzilla's 60th anniversary in 2014, this IDW issue delivers a cover that practically crackles with atomic energy — the King of the Monsters rears back with his dorsal fins blazing blue and his jaws wide open, a blinding beam of atomic breath erupting outward while enormous clawed hands rise from the flames below, suggesting a titanic clash just out of frame. Matt Frank's art captures both Godzilla's raw, terrifying scale and a certain elemental grandeur, rendering every scale and spark with obvious care. Rulers of Earth continues to be one of the more ambitious Godzilla comics around, and issue #12 wears the milestone anniversary badge proudly.
