Godzilla #1
Dark Horse kicks off their 1995 Godzilla: King of the Monsters series with a cover that wastes absolutely no time — the Big G himself lunges straight at the viewer, blood dripping from his jaws, dorsal spines flared, crashing through what appears to be a cityscape in an explosion of debris and water. The cover copy teases "He's Thirsty — For Blood!!!" and the image delivers on every word, rendered with tremendous energy by cover artist Art Adams. If you're looking for a monster comic that opens with maximum presence, issue #1 is a fine place to start.
