God Hates Astronauts #1

Ryan Browne's self-described "obnoxious" Image Comics series kicks off in 2014 with a cover that wastes absolutely no time setting the tone: a massive rhino-headed figure in a superhero suit delivers a fist-pumping beatdown on a bearded man, while a NASA-hatted farmer, a ghostly apparition clutching a bottle, a winged creature, and crackling golden lightning all vie for attention in the same gloriously chaotic frame. Browne handles writing, art, inking, and lettering himself, with Jordan Boyd and Chris Crank rounding out the creative team — a tight-knit crew producing something genuinely, cheerfully unhinged. If the cover of "A Star is Born" is any indication, this series has no interest in playing it straight, and that's precisely the appeal.
