“Beyond Tomorrow”

In "Beyond Tomorrow," a haunting tale from Girls' Romances #78 (1961), Carol feels an eerie pull toward the legend of Mary Philippa, a ghost said to wait eternally on the shore for her lost love. When Carol falls for Eric, a sailor whose heart belongs to the sea, her growing fear deepens as a storm claims his boat and he fails to return. With Mike Sekowsky's art and Bernard Sachs' inks bringing the emotional weight to life, and John Romita's evocative cover capturing the story's melancholy mystery, this issue weaves romance and the supernatural into a quietly powerful tale.

They say the ghost of Mary Philippa stands on the shore, waiting for her lover's return, and that no flowers will grow on her grave until she finds her lover again. Somehow feeling a closeness to Mary Philippa, when Carol falls in love with Eric, she begs him to give up the sea but he tells her that he belongs there.
