Gil St André #11
The eleventh volume of Jean-Charles Kraehn's Belgian thriller series finds Gil St André squarely in danger's path, as the cover illustrates beautifully: a tense close-up of a blonde woman and a dark-haired man armed with a rifle dominates the foreground, while flames and chaos erupt in an African village behind them — with what appears to be a crocodile lurking nearby for good measure. Above it all, a cool and composed figure in a tuxedo surveys the scene with quiet authority. "Afrikaans avontuur" promises the globe-trotting intrigue the series does so well, and Kraehn's clean, expressive linework makes this 2014 Daedalus edition a genuinely compelling addition to the run.
