In the shadow of the frontier, the sacred flame of the Natchez is extinguished by Creek warriors during a daring raid, leaving Black Crow and Painted Thunder to face the consequences. With the flame gone, Painted Thunder must undertake a perilous journey to restore the sacred fire before the balance of their people is lost.

In the wake of a brutal raid, a young boy is taken by Huron warriors as a hostage, his life spared so the Iroquois women may live. Decades later, with peace shattered once more, a masked warrior rides into the frontier, his identity hidden and his purpose unknown—bound only to defend the Iroquois from the returning threat.
