Ghostbusters: The Other Side #1 (2008, IDW) kicks off with a chilling twist when Peter Venkman’s soul is ripped from his body during a clash with vengeful gangster spirits, leaving his form empty while a ghost named Fred takes control. Written by Keith Champagne and illustrated by Tom Nguyen, with inks by Drew Geraci, colors by Moose Baumann, and letters by Chris Mowry, the issue plunges the team into uncertainty as they confront the terrifying possibility that Venkman’s spirit is trapped in Purgatory—while a sinister ghostly mob, led by Al Capone, plots their destruction. During a confrontation with Japanese and American gangster spirits, Peter Venkman's soul is dislodged, and a ghost named Fred takes over his body. At their base, the Ghostbusters grapple with Venkman's lifeless form, fearing his soul is lost in a desolate void. Fred reports to ghostly mob bosses, including Al Capone, who decide to eliminate the Ghostbusters.
