History

Semic S.A. was the French publishing entity that grew out of Éditions Lug after that storied Lyon-based house was acquired by the Scandinavian Semic Group in 1989; the Semic Group had divisions across Europe specifically to distribute translated American comics, and France was a key market. After Navarro's departure, Semic continued publishing French editions of Marvel material but discontinued the creation of original content, pivoting to a reprint-only model — the context in which this Ghost Rider series was born. The American source material, Ghost Rider vol. 3 (Marvel, 1990), was written by Howard Mackie with interior art by Javier Saltares and finishes by Mark Texeira, and was edited by Bobbie Chase; Semic S.A. licensed those stories and packaged them in a standard comic-format edition released through French newsstands beginning in July 1991. The series ran for 15 issues before concluding in November 1993, with each Semic issue generally reprinting content from the corresponding stretch of the American run.
