Generation M #1
Part of Marvel's 2006 "Decimation" event, this first issue of the five-part limited series opens Paul Jenkins, Ramón Bachs, and John Lucas's ground-level look at a mutant world turned upside down. Stuart Immonen's cover sets a haunting tone — a lone figure in a long coat stands clenched-fisted against a smoldering cityscape, a trail of white smoke curling up from something extinguished at his feet while golden fire erupts from his face, silhouetted crowd behind him suggesting a world in upheaval. It's a quietly arresting image that promises something more human and melancholy than a typical superhero opener.

With most of the mutants on Earth de-powered because of M-Day, reporter Sally Floyd begins telling the story of mutants who lost their abilities and died. An EMT informs her that Cyclops and Wolverine came to his hospital for help and shows her what remains of Chamber, now totally dependent on life support without his powers. Sally realizes that the real story is in writing about the mutants who lost their powers and survived. She becomes an overnight success with her "Ex-Mutant Diaries" but is chilled to the core when she learns that someone is now killing mutants who have lost their powers.
