Gene and the sheriff discover that the bandit has hidden stolen gold in an old dry well belonging to Jim Torney, and they set out to recover it before the criminal can retrieve his cache. The issue also contains a secondary story, "Grumpy's Hunch," in which a stranger arrives in town carrying a carpetbag of gold, leading the sheriff and his deputy Grumpy to investigate whether the mysterious visitor is connected to local criminal activity.
