Volume 25 of Hiroya Oku's brutal sci-fi survival series keeps the tension at a slow burn right from its cover — a steely-eyed figure in the signature Gantz suit crouches in the foreground while a massive, weathered skull looms in shadow behind him, the stark black-and-grey palette giving the whole composition a cold, ominous weight. It's a fittingly austere design for a series that never lets its characters — or readers — relax for long.
