In "The Great Horse Race," Gabby Hayes becomes involved in a confrontation at a corral where he and others are cornered by villains. After narrowly escaping, Gabby and companions pursue three men who have stolen a valuable packet of diamonds from Custer and are hiding in the hills with a coyote. The story follows Gabby as he attempts to track down the thieves, with the action climaxing in a cyclone cellar where Gabby uses his wits to outwit the criminals and recover the stolen goods.
