Gérard - Cinq années dans les pattes de Depardieu #[nn]
From Dargaud comes this charming Franco-Belgian album by Mathieu Sapin, in which a compact, wide-eyed figure rides in the sidecar of a roaring red motorcycle piloted by a large, sunglasses-wearing man — a gleefully caricatured Gérard Depardieu — tearing down an open road past oil derricks and industrial sprawl. The title, Cinq années dans les pattes de Depardieu ("Five Years in Depardieu's Clutches"), sets the tone perfectly: this is an intimate, comedic account of an artist spending half a decade in the orbit of one of France's most outsized personalities. Sapin's loose, expressive linework and the vivid yellow cover make this 2017 release an immediately inviting read.
