G. Raf Zerk #17
Volume 17 of this long-running Belgian humor series from Dupuis presents a delightfully unsettling cover: the gap-toothed, wild-haired G. Raf Zerk peers around a looming black rectangle while a grotesque, glowing-eyed skull snarls from the opposite side, with speech bubbles asking "Weet je wie we morgen begraven?" ("Do you know who we're burying tomorrow?") and the skull's ominous reply, "Wie kan dat zijn?" ("Who could that be?"). The bright turquoise background and exaggerated caricature style give the morbid setup a playfully absurd comic edge that fans of Franco-Belgian humor strips will find immediately appealing. A fine 1999 entry in this Dupuis comedy series, balancing spooky atmosphere with the series' signature cartoonish charm.
