"Man on a Tower" features a soldier who reveals to his sergeant a troubled past involving a woman and a man named Carl. The soldier confesses that he was in love with a woman in the service, but Carl held her affection and later threatened him after a bank robbery, forcing the soldier into an impossible situation. After hearing footsteps outside the diner where they're speaking, the soldier's resolve crumbles, and he prepares to flee rather than face the consequences of his past actions.
