This June 1958 DC war title puts the tension right in your face: a U.S. soldier in winter combat gear scrambles desperately up a snow-covered mountain cliff, rifle in hand and a "USA"-marked pack on his back, while an enemy aircraft bears down on him against a vivid pink sky — it's a breathtaking composition by cover artist Joe Kubert that captures both the isolation and the danger of the story titled "The Big Run!" Inside, writer Bob Haney and artist Russ Heath bring their own considerable talents to the action. At just a dime, this is late-'50s war comics storytelling at its most gripping.
