Funny Folks #2

The cover of this 1946 DC humor title sets up a perfectly absurd gag: a small, cheerful cartoon dog is happily reading a book called Aladdin's Lamp, completely unaware that a very large, skeptical genie has already materialized from the magic lamp beside him — and that genie is grumbling in a speech bubble that "there's no such thing as a genie!" Bill Hudson's cartooning brings a wonderfully dry comic irony to the scene, with a couple of additional lively animal characters peeking in from the title lettering above. Funny Folks #2 is a charming ten-cent slice of postwar funny-animal comics at their most playful.
