☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains multiple animal-themed stories. "A Bushel of Fun" follows a distraught woman who has lost her shoe to a shoemaker named Calvin Cobbler, who has taken out a mortgage on it; a rabbit character attempts to use cunning to retrieve or replace the shoe. "Spunky" features a young deer learning about good manners from an older animal, emphasizing gentlemanly behavior toward friends and fellow workers. An additional story depicts kittens who find themselves in various situations involving food products, including an encounter with a delivery truck for "Petsi's Pet" food and interactions with other animals over shared provisions.
Spunky thinks good manners are for wimps, so he ditches his mother's lectures and sets out to find tougher friends who share his no-rules attitude—but his encounters across the river teach him some hard lessons about how even the roughest animals expect a little courtesy. By the time he returns home chastened, Spunky has learned that being polite might actually get him further than he ever imagined.
