The Frankenstein Monster, driven by vengeance against his human enemies, witnesses a woman trapped in flames and rushes to save her, but arrives too late. At a city hospital, the creature gently places two children on the floor and rings for help, revealing a capacity for compassion. A criminal named Lee escapes a bank robbery and is pursued by police, ultimately shot and killed; later at the city morgue, officials discover the corpse bears a striking physical resemblance to the Frankenstein Monster himself. Investigators examining a mysterious tomb discover a portrait of a man named Florian Ellison who died in 1825—exactly one hundred years before the present day—along with an inscription revealing he was stabbed to death by Lady Fantine, his jealous fiancée.
