“Seven Samuroid”

"Seven Samuroid" introduces a unique blend of galactic intrigue and ancient legacy, set in a universe where robot warriors known as the Samuroids were forged two millennia ago to protect the innocent—both organic and droid. Created by a secret group of geniuses and bound by a sacred brotherhood ethic rooted in a lost Sol System culture, these nearly immortal beings now awaken from long dormancy, each seeking purpose in a universe that has forgotten their origin. Written and illustrated by Frank Brunner, with colors by Jan Brunner and cover art by Frank Brunner, this 1984 Image International issue sets the stage for a story where destiny, memory, and the mysterious Reiki element collide.

From back cover: "Two thousand years before the events of this story, there was a terrible war within a galactic union. The war began with economic and political issues, but robots became the public issue and the conflict was to become known as the Robotoid Wars ever after. During this period of turmoil, robot technology reached its zenith and The Samuroids were created by a group of non-political geniuses to defend the rights of innocent beings as well as the rights of oppressed droids. Knowing that this technology would not remain a secret, they programmed in each Samuroid as a part of its essence a sacred brotherhood ethic based in part on a legendary Sol System culture, so that if the secret was stolen, no matter who created these super warriors, it was part of them! The Samuroids varied in proficiency and all were independent thinkers. They required the mind transcription of a human or alien intelligence. Samuroids are practically immortal if not destroyed. However, they are dependent on an obscure element known as Reiki to maintain powers. In the ensuing years, The Samuroids became without a cause and some went astray. Some, if they could obtain Reiki, search the distant galaxies for the sacred "Rune Tape". Others simply choose to "sleep." Until now..."
