Forgotten Realms Comic Book #18

Part of DC's "Avatar Story" arc, this February 1991 issue of Forgotten Realms carries the striking tagline "Against the Gods!" — and the cover by Rags Morales delivers on that promise in unsettling fashion. Dominating the image are two monstrous divine figures — a craggy stone-faced deity and a snarling lion-headed creature — looming over a row of glass jars containing glowing skulls, while a pair of armed human adventurers watch warily from the background. Jeff Grubb and Dave Simons bring this D&D-rooted world to vivid life, and this issue looks to be one of the arc's most visually arresting entries.
