Flying Aces #5 is a war anthology featuring multiple stories. "The Private and the Sergeant" depicts a conflict between two soldiers from the same hometown who constantly fight, culminating in their patrol being ambushed; Sergeant Sharpe discovers that private Hayes is missing after the attack. Another story follows bomber crews conducting a devastating raid over North Africa during the final week of the Blitz, with B-17s dropping their payload on an air base. "Armed and Ready" depicts American Sabre jet pilots engaged in aerial combat, successfully turning back enemy MiG fighters in the twilight zone of war.
