Part of DC's 1998 "Ghosts" Annual event, this 48-page extra-sized issue puts the Scarlet Speedster in genuinely unsettling territory. Bernie Wrightson's cover says it all: the Flash grapples desperately with a ragged, decaying figure in an orange costume while a blond-haired figure looms behind them and a cluster of grotesque, screaming skulls crowds the left edge — atmosphere that feels more horror than superhero. With Brian Augustyn writing and Anthony Williams on interior art, it's a rich package for any Flash fan ready for something a little darker than a straightforward race.
