The cover of Flash #42 says it all — "Night of the Mechanical Zombies!" — as a blue-haired woman in a yellow coat clutches a dark object and backs away in terror, while the Scarlet Speedster lies sprawled and seemingly defeated at her feet, a looming crowd of shadowy figures pressing in behind them. It's a wonderfully unsettling image from cover penciler Greg LaRocque and inker José Marzán Jr., capturing both vulnerability and dread in equal measure. Part of William Messner-Loebs' 1990 run, this issue looks like a genuine detour into horror territory for the Fastest Man Alive.
