Flash #38
Something is very wrong with the Fastest Man Alive. This May 1990 issue presents a deeply unsettling cover by Greg LaRocque and Larry Mahlstedt, showing the Flash plastered across a wall of television monitors — grinning and pointing at the viewer with the suspicious enthusiasm of a late-night infomercial pitchman, promising he's "found the secret of inner peace and contentment." The bold caption "WE MUST SELL OUT!" adds a wonderfully ominous layer to the scene, setting up what writer William Messner-Loebs has titled "Running on the Edge" — a story that clearly has Wally West somewhere he probably shouldn't be.
