Flash #27
The tagline "Running from Myself!" sets a haunting tone for this June 1989 issue, and Greg LaRocque and Larry Mahlstedt's cover delivers on that promise — the Flash is seized from behind by a dark, threatening figure while a green-skinned menace looms to one side and an eerie, decaying presence lurks in the background, with a wide-eyed woman looking on in horror. William Messner-Loebs was crafting some genuinely compelling human drama in this volume, and a cover this unsettling — the Scarlet Speedster looking genuinely desperate amid a crowd of nightmarish figures — suggests the story inside more than earns its title.
